In the afternoon of March 31, 2008, Chairman Xu Kuangdi met with Mr. Peter Mileham, President of British Chambers of Commerce, and his colleagues and accepted in person from Mr. Mileham the “Outstanding Achievement Award” granted by ChinaLink. Also present at the meeting were Mr. Pan Yunhe, Executive Vice-President of Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), Mr. Du Xiangwan, Vice-President of the CAE, Mr. Sun Shuyi, Executive Vice-Chairman of China Federation of Industrial Economics (CFIE) and Mr. Liu Haiyan, Senior Vice-Chairman of the CFIE etc.
In the meeting, Chairman Xu reviewed the extensive Sino-UK cooperation since the introduction of opening up policy in China, ranging from trade to economy, technology transfer to investment, and culture to sports. He also briefed Mr. Mileham and his colleagues on the general information about the CFIE and the World Industrial & Commercial Organizations (WICO) Forum to be held in Beijing in the latter half of 2008.
President Mileham said he felt greatly honored to meet with Chairman Xu in his first visit to China. Then, he presented to Chairman Xu the “Outstanding Achievement Award” and the certificate granted by ChinaLink for his outstanding contribution to promoting the sisterhood between Liverpool and Shanghai when he was Mayor of Shanghai. The ChinaLink “Outstanding Achievement Award” is a national award in UK specially designed for organizations and individuals that greatly contribute to Sino-UK relations. Mr. Sun Shuyi, Executive Vice-Chairman of the CFIE hosted the awarding ceremony.
Later, President Mileham gave a brief introduction to the British Chambers of Commerce. The British Chambers of Commerce is a nationwide social organization with immense economic and political influence. It has more than 2000 member enterprises including 60% of the large enterprises in UK.
In the end, Chairman Xu and President Mileham expressed a common will to enhance future exchange and cooperation.
