In the morning of April 2, 2008, Chairman Xu Kuangdi of China Federation of Industrial Economics (CFIE), also Vice-Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and President of Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), met with Mr. Frederick C. Dubee, Senior Advisor of United Nations Global Compact in the Beijing Conference Center. Mr. Dubee was invited on a special visit to attend the “High Level Forum on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)” hosted by the CFIE. During the meeting, Chairman Xu and Mr. Dubee exchanged opinions on a number of issues, including how to advance CSR and promote a harmonious society. Chairman Xu pointed out that China should explore a CSR standard of its own with Chinese characteristics. To him, the Scientific Outlook on Development and the concept of putting people first put forward by the Chinese government correspond with the concept of CSR in essence. He said, China support the efforts to improve workers’ living and working conditions, enhance environmental protection and maintain sustainable economic development, and we need to take global economic climate and factors into consideration in advancing CSR. Mr. Dubee said, he had come to learn from China and exchange with China what he had learned elsewhere, and he was willing to engage in an extensive exchange of opinions on topics of mutual interest later in the forum. Also present at the meeting were Mr. Sun Shuyi, Executive Vice-chairman of the CFIE, Mr. Gu Jiaqi and Mr. Liu Haiyan, two senior vice-chairmen of the CFIE.
