Sino-German Conference on Climate Change and Energy Supply

On April 14, 2008, Sino-German Conference on Climate Change and Energy Supply, jointly organized by China Federation of Industrial Economics (CFIE) and Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS), has been successfully held.
The conference focused on the two hot international issues of climate change and energy supply. Its main agenda covered “Climate change and energy supply: Searching for a common approach”, “The Kyoto Protocol: Climate protection strategies for the 21st century”, “Energy efficiency and renewable energies: Contributions to the solution of the climate problem and the saving of resources” and “Requests for shaping an international climate and energy policy”.
Present at the meeting were over 150 representatives from the foreign and Chinese governments, academia and business communities. The informative and inspiring speeches by the guest speakers and the heated exchange of ideas in the free discussion sessions have exemplified a proactive attempt in facilitating Sino-German communication on climate change and energy supply.
Before the main event, Mr. Liu Haiyan, Senior Vice Chairman of CFIE met with major foreign guests, including Dr. Karsten Friedrich Hoppenstedt, member of the European Parliament and the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs and Industrial Policy, Dr. Carlo C. Jäger, Head of Social Systems Department of Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), Dr. Frank Umbach, Head of Security Policies, Asian-Pacific Program of German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP), Dr. Jörg Wuttke, President of European Union Chamber of Commerce Beijing and Chief Representative of BASF China, as well as Mr. Winfried Jung, Resident Representative of KAS in Beijing, etc. Also at the meeting were Mr. Li Yanling and Mr. Liu Youhou, two Deputy Directors of CFIE and Mr. Li Jianhua, Deputy Secretary General of CFIE.
